Walking in the Spirit

Word of the Spirit

When we believe and accept Jesus as our savior by faith, we receive the Holy Spirit to live within us in Jesus' name.

In Him, you also, when you heard the word of truth, the good news of your salvation, and [as a result] believed in Him, were stamped with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit [the One promised by Christ] as owned and protected [by God].

- Ephesians 1:13 Amplified Bible (AMP)

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is within you, whom you have  [received as a gift] from God, and that you are not your own [property]?  You were bought with a price [you were actually purchased with the precious blood of Jesus and made His own].  So then, honor and glorify God with your body.

- 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Amplified Bible (AMP)

The Holy Spirit is the third member of the Holy Trinity.  He is holy - meaning completely separated from Satan's spiritual kingdom and its corresponding works of darkness.  When we allow ourselves to be led by the Holy Spirit, then we walk according to God's nature (our new nature according to the Spirit); we will no longer walk as children of darkness and disobedience fulfilling the lust and desires of Satan's spiritual kingdom.

Now the practices of the sinful nature are clearly evident: they are sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality (total irresponsibility, lack of self-control), idolatry, sorcery, hostility, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions [that promote heresies], envy, drunkenness, riotous behavior, and other things like these. I warn you beforehand, just as I did previously, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.  But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.  And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature together with its passions and appetites.  If we [claim to] live by the [Holy] Spirit, we must also walk by the Spirit [with personal integrity, godly character, and moral courage—our conduct empowered by the Holy Spirit].  We must not become conceited, challenging or provoking one another, envying one another.

- Galatians 5:19-26 Amplified Bible (AMP)

When we walk continuously according to the Holy Spirit, we will experience the peace of God which surpasses all understanding.  When we are carriers of the Holy Spirit and chose to once again walk according to the flesh (our nature without the Holy Spirit), the Holy Spirit within us will convict us and we will not rest in the peace of God.

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [but seek to please Him], by whom you were sealed and marked [branded as God’s own] for the day of redemption [the final deliverance from the consequences of sin].

- Ephesians 4:30 Amplified Bible (AMP)

But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts].

- Galatians 5:16 Amplified Bible (AMP)

When we walk in the Spirit (allow ourselves to be led by the Holy Spirit), then we are rooted in God's spiritual kingdom of Heaven (walk in the Light).  We will now have no condemnation through Christ; for His Law-fulfilling blood sacrifice will be applied to us in the spiritual realm, setting us free from sin and its punishment/condemnation.

If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness [of sin], we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we [really] walk in the Light [that is, live each and every day in conformity with the precepts of God], as He Himself is in the Light, we have [true, unbroken] fellowship with one another [He with us, and we with Him], and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin [by  erasing the stain of sin, keeping us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations].

- 1 John 1:6-7 Amplified Bible (AMP)

[ Free from Indwelling Sin ] There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

- Romans 8:1 New King James Version (NKJV)

But if you are guided and led by the Spirit, you are not subject to the Law.

- Galatians 5:18 Amplified Bible (AMP)

When we walk in the Spirit / walk in the Light, we abide in the will of God, and we walk in holiness and godliness.

"Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven."

- Matthew 7:21 New King James Version (NKJV)

Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.

- Hebrews 12:14 New King James Version (NKJV)

...godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

- 1 Timothy 4:8 New King James Version (NKJV)

When we truly walk in the Spirit and are therefore separated from Satan's spiritual kingdom of the world, of darkness and of the flesh, then Satan has no claim on us, no authority over us and nothing he can use against us.  Instead we can exercise God's authority and power over the enemy in Jesus' name and the enemy can in no way harm us (he is subject to us).

In John 14:30, Jesus proclaims "I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me."

When we look deeper into the Amplified Bible, John 14:30 reads: "I will not speak with you much longer, for the ruler of the world (Satan)  is coming. And he has no claim on Me [no power over Me nor anything that he can use against Me.]"

Jesus revealed to us that because the enemy had nothing in common with Him, the enemy had no claim  over Him, no power over Him, and could not use anything against Him.

In Luke 8:27-28, the gospel tells us when  He stepped out on the land, there met Him a certain man from the city  who had demons for a long time. And he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down  before Him, and with a loud voice said, “What have I to do with You,  Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!”

Again, looking deeper, into the amplified version of Luke 8:28: Seeing  Jesus, he cried out [with a terrible voice from the depths of his  throat] and fell down before Him [in dread and terror], and shouted loudly, “What business do we have [in common] with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me [before the  appointed time of judgment]!”

Jesus had no commonality with the demons or Satan because they were from two different spiritual  kingdoms. Jesus reaffirms this in John 18:36 saying, “My Kingdom is not of this world."

Jesus had His Kingdom (Isaiah 9:6) manifested within Him through the Holy Spirit who led Him (Matthew 4:1, Luke 4:1). Jesus even proclaimed: "But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the Kingdom of God has come upon you." in Matthew 12:28.

Satan's spiritual kingdom of the world, of the flesh and of darkness, separated the enemy from Jesus, because Jesus has no commonality with that kingdom, and the enemy has no commonality with God's spiritual kingdom.  Jesus is set apart from Satan's kingdom (meaning He is Holy).  God's kingdom of heaven is greater and has authority over Satan's kingdom.

When we have God's Kingdom manifested and matured within us (Luke 17:21) through the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17), connected to Jesus (John 15:4-5) through faith, then the enemy has no commonality with us either.  We have victory over the enemy because "God in us" is greater than the enemy and the spiritual kingdom of darkness.

Little children (believers, dear ones), you are of God and you belong to Him and have [already] overcome them [the agents of the antichrist]; because He who is in you is greater than he (Satan) who is  in the world [of sinful mankind].

- 1 John 4:4 Amplified Bible (AMP)

“Listen carefully: I have given you authority [that you now possess] to tread on serpents and scorpions, and [the ability to exercise authority] over all the power of the enemy (Satan); and nothing will [in any way] harm you.”

- Luke 10:19 Amplified Bible (AMP)

“I  will give you the keys (authority) of the kingdom of heaven; and  whatever you bind [forbid, declare to be improper and unlawful] on earth will have [already] been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose [permit, declare lawful] on earth will have [already] been loosed in heaven.”

- Matthew 16:19 Amplified Bible (AMP)

“No weapon  that is formed against you will succeed; And every tongue that rises  against you in judgment you will condemn. This [peace, righteousness, security, and triumph over opposition] is the heritage of the servants  of the Lord, And this is their vindication from Me,” says the Lord.

- Isaiah 54:17 Amplified Bible (AMP)

So submit to [the authority of] God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you.

- James 4:7 Amplified Bible (AMP)

Led by the Spirit

God created a way for us to be clothed in His righteousness - the righteousness of God (God in us).  When we accept Jesus as our savior, the Holy Spirit is sent to live within us in Jesus' name.  At this very moment we are adopted into God's family and gain spiritual citizenship in God's spiritual kingdom.  We also possess and stand in the righteousness of God.  Now as children of Light, we are required to walk accordingly, being led by the Holy Spirit (walking in the Spirit).

When we walk in the Spirit and walk in the Light by faith, then we abide in God's will.  Even under grace, we are still obligated to fulfill and obey spiritual precepts (the works of the Spirit).  When we do, we have the requirements of the works of God's Law already fulfilled for us on our behalf by the blood of Jesus (applied to us in the spiritual realm).

When we are rooted in God's spiritual kingdom (walk in the Light) and allow ourselves to obey and be led by the Holy Spirit (walk in the Spirit), then we have nothing in common with Satan's spiritual kingdom of darkness.  This separation from Satan's spiritual kingdom is holiness, and it is godliness.  With nothing in common with Satan's spiritual kingdom, Satan no longer has any claim over us and instead we have God's power and God's authority over Satan and his spiritual kingdom of darkness.
